No. You only have to be considering the idea of opening a business, researching the feasibility of a proposed profit-making venture, or be an existing small business to take advantage of our resources.
It starts with registering for SBDC assistance. Tell us about your company and needs and we tell you how we can help. Then, we establish goals to work on (business loan, equity capital, etc.) and we work together to reach that goal. We will meet with you in-person, on the phone or at a mutually convenient location. It’s like having another confidential member on your team – someone who is specifically focused on the business goal you identified as most important.
The SBDC’s professional consulting services are offered at no cost. Most workshops and classes are low or no cost.

After initial consultation, our expert SBDC staff will pair you up with the consultant(s) best suited to help you with your business needs. The consultant(s) will contact you to arrange a meeting at your earliest convenience, and start the process of assisting you. Amount of time spent with a consultant will vary, depending on the issues you are facing and the complexity of your business needs.
The SBDC does not provide grants or loans. Grants generally are designed to support non-profit organizations and state or local governments.
While the SBDC does not provide loans or financing, we work closely with financial partners who offer a wide variety of loan programs, as well as other regional and community funding sources. The SBDC financing professionals can also assist you in going through the process of applying for funds.
In most situations getting a business loan is challenging and usually requires extensive preparation. While the SBDC does not provide loans, we have financing professionals who understand what lenders want to see in a borrower’s proposal. SBDC consultants will also give advice on which source of funding is right for you.
Owners, managers and key employees are welcome to sign up for the workshops and classes.
